JANFEB - 1AC - DeleuzeTournament: UH Cougar Classic | Round: Doubles | Opponent: Cedar Park MT | Judge: Gamble, De La O, Jennings The day was May 4th, 1970: The National Guard massacred unarmed college students from Kent State University as they brought to campus streets to protest the Cambodian Campaign. Next, hundreds of colleges and universities closed as millions of students nationwide protested the killings and went on strike. However, just a few days later, the war machine plugged along with business as usual, and the masses stood silent: they didn’t know what came next. So they disbanded – the resistance disappeared, and the protests became old news. Everyone acted like the protests never happened. It appears our voices have failed us - simply knowing about government policies has proven to be wholly ineffective to challenge the political. When the peace movement was at its strongest, protesting a decision built on a bed of lies, it was also at its weakest. The people are missing – the protesting masses have become a silent majority. Instead of remaining trapped in this traditional framework, prefer a molecular politics of experimentation. ==== This reclamation is evident in present-day protestsMoynihan and Chan 09 (Colin, Sewell. Part 2 is FramingWestern metaphysics is wrong – there is no stable object or concept to begin moral analysis with. Things like subjectivity have normalized existence, creating the illusion that we exist separately from the world around us. The idea of a subject that exists independently entails that we create the categories that we are segmented into. However, there is no reason the concept of something like gender race is any more or less of a concept than the concept of me as a being. There’s no such thing as a subject that falls into categories, because categories are what create the illusion of a subject in the first place. MassumiMassumi, Brian. Learning and knowledge, which are what we seek here, literally only exist through becomings since becoming is the activation of potential, and potential is the way we gain access to knowledge or existence at all that can count as new. Rhizomatic politics is one of continuation and flux - a constantly shifting and moving political that can never be located or contained in one place. We would like to change the way that we relate to war and the State – rather than chanting for change, we affirm experimentation with what it means to protest and be an activist. We are against divisions and articulations of place and order. In this sense, our affirmation is one which cannot be tied down or controlled. Rhizomatic thought is nomadic and cuts across boundaries imposed by vertical lines of hierarchies and order. Rhizomatic thought is never in order, moving in many directions and connected to many other lines of thinking and being. By adopting a rhizomatic structure, which is similar to the lives of the nomad, we break down the roots of microfacism Part 4 is SolvencyThe words we say do not represent an idea, they express a fluid strategy – the distinction is between what words mean vs what they do – even if they win the language we use has adverse meanings, its effect on the world serves to liberate dualisms means we solve the net benefitStrathausen 10 (Carsten Strathausen is Associate Professor of German and English at the University of Missouri. Our radical dissent is a form of reinscribing the terms of communication which is a precondition to true deliberative democracy—listen close because this card ends the debate | 1/7/17 |
