JANFEB - Chapter 3Tournament: Blake | Round: 1 | Opponent: Apple Valley HC | Judge: Akhil Jalan Adv 1. Africana Womanism Black women are rampant on college/university campuses. Their protection is key. Protecting free speech allows Africana Womanism, which is the best possible way to have an instance of Radical Remembering because it allows all voices to be heard. The concerns of Africana Women and MEN have to be addressed in regards of African Culture. Adv 2. Islamophobia Free Speech lets us learn about them, instead of being lab rats. Impact: Protecting their speech prevents Islamophobia and creates diversity We protect the large percentage of Black Muslims, like Nation of Islam. | 12/16/16 |
JANFEB - Chapter 3 v2Tournament: Newark | Round: 1 | Opponent: Harrison SO | Judge: Clement Agho-Otoghile Advantage: Africana Womanism YET, Black women are rampant on college campuses and are instrumental in every advance in academia. Womanism opens up spaces of the university in debate to creates sites of discourse and disrupt spaces of whiteness. THUS, this contests the hegemonic structures of deliberation that marginalize marked bodies. AND, true deliberation is impossible unless the embodiment of the speakers is directly confronted which is the best possible way to have an instance of Radical Remembering because it allows all voices to be heard. The experiences of black women are unique as the specificity of violence manifest itself differently. No other approach can solve this issue. AFF is key to discussion of herstory as it relates to policing the colorline. Only a rejection of dominate narratives of black violence allow us to put Black women in the forefront of our discussion instead of tokens Black female suffering is essentialized through a discussion of black trauma but the language that initiated Black Female violence becomes invisible And, Freedom of speech requires emancipation from social oppression – instead of viewing freedom of speech as a negative individual right, we should understand it as the right to speak up. | 1/11/17 |
NOVDEC - Chapter 2Tournament: Glenbrooks | Round: 2 | Opponent: Neenah MA | Judge: Jeff Joseph DoJ can make them have consent decree Part 1 – Framework Moral law is centered on agents of morality therefore no justification can be valid if it allows for degrading conditions. Thus the criterion is respecting human worth. ROB – vote for the debater that best supports a method of liberation. Part 2 – WAR CITY Qualified immunity justifies terrorizing black neighborhoods. Essentially, police know can get away with anything, and are aware of that. We have to remember; police have to listen to the Federal Government. Qualified immunity’s focus on technicalities DISGUISES institutional racism and makes civil rights litigation about INDIVIDUAL CASES instead of structural problems and encourages acceptance of the status quo—we have to break down the illusion that our CJS allows for redress The vagueness of what is reasonability confuses officers to not know the bright line of excessive force. Think of 4th amendment violations, this allows for police officers to be violent (and protected) in their dealings with the public. Part 3 – Solvency The plan fosters cooperation, which operates as a key check against police departments. The plan solves by eliminating uncertainty about what is "clearly established" by publishing opinions that clarify QI for police officers and also beginning to hear cases challenging immunity granted by lower courts. This is key to increasing accountability and serves as an immediate starting point for future reforms Underview Beyond the plan-text, our aff forces a confrontation with invisibilized colonialism and the rhetorical strategies that prop up system of domination. | 11/20/16 |
